The objective of the course is to give the participants a detailed insight into the use of the stringermethod when designing concrete structures. The course introduces the calculation method and the rules, including code provisions, that apply.

The stringermethod has been used for many years and is an integral part of the design of concrete structures in Denmark.

Initially, the calculation methods and the resulting reinforcement designs that can be used, when designing concrete structures in the ultimate limit state are described. Some general principles for applying the theory of plasticity to concrete structures are given. The reinforcement formulas for plane stress state are presented.

Calculation principles, rules, standard rules etc. for the application of the stringer method to concrete structures are dealt with. To illustrate the principles, examples are presented, and the participants then work on exercises applying the method.

The use of software systems is discussed, including how elastic FEM programs can be used to create stringer solutions.
