About ConTech Lab

ConTech Lab is the construction industry’s shared development platform, where companies in the sector can collaboratively develop and experiment with new ways of using data, digitalization, and technology to create the buildings of the future – more sustainable and productive construction.

All knowledge and learning are shared, so the entire industry can benefit.

If Denmark is to meet its ambitious climate goals of reducing CO₂ emissions, the construction industry plays an important role, as the sector accounts for around 30% of total emissions. This calls for new ways of working – and digitalisation and technology are key tools to accelerate the transition.

At ConTech Lab, companies across the construction value chain can gain concrete experience with digitalisation and new technology, as well as their implementation.

The ambition of ConTech Lab is to unlock the significant potential for digitalization and the use of new technologies within the construction industry. ConTech Lab complements other initiatives in the sector that drive digital and green transformation, offering an independent platform where industry stakeholders can collaborate to solve concrete challenges.

ConTech Lab's work

ConTech – short for Construction Technologies – refers to technologies that can optimize and improve construction processes. It includes both software and hardware that create value throughout the construction value chain: from design and planning to execution and subsequent operation.

At ConTech Lab, we have worked on:

  • Methods for minimizing resources on construction sites
  • Understanding and applying AI in construction processes.
  • Development and practical use of material passports.
  • Methods and a corresponding app to measure biodiversity in the built environment.
  • Scanning and documenting waste data in renovation projects.
  • A solutions catalog for working with cybersecurity in construction.

Pioneer Projects

ConTech Lab’s pioneer projects are based on a specific business challenge that can be addressed through technology, processes, and collaboration, crossing interfaces and project phase boundaries. They are problem-driven and use existing technology that can be further developed in the market. Ideally, pioneer projects are linked to real construction projects, so they contribute to solving relevant and current challenges.

Analysis Projects

ConTech Lab’s analysis projects are focused and application-oriented. They uncover potentials and challenges of specific technologies or examine new trends in construction. The purpose is to gather knowledge and share it with the industry – analysis projects can also serve as a springboard for initiating pioneer projects if found relevant.

Lennis Clausen

"A unifying development platform like ConTech Lab can support the industry’s actors in collaborating across boundaries and advancing digitally through targeted, collaborative, and practice-oriented solutions based on construction projects. If we are to succeed in making the construction industry more sustainable and circular, the sector needs a place to experiment with technology and new working methods before making major investments."

Lennie Clausen, Program Director at the philanthropic association Realdania

The ConTech Ecosystem

In ConTech Lab’s pioneer projects, we make an effort to identify the right technology companies that can contribute to solving the challenges. You can access the ConTech Lab ecosystem on this page and add companies if you know of any that are missing

Charlotte Karup

"Construction is crucial for the green transition and impacts the environment in multiple ways, including energy and resource consumption. Therefore, it is important that we continue the effort and ensure that even more construction companies start using new technologies that can both increase productivity, accelerate the green transition, and strengthen the competitiveness of Danish construction companies."

- Charlotte Kjeldsen-Krarup, Development Director at the Industry Foundation (Industriens Fond)

The contributors behind ConTech Lab are Industriens Fond, Realdania, Knud Højgaard’s Foundation, the Rambøll Foundation, and Molio – the construction industry’s knowledge center.
