The purpose of these Guidelines is to set out requirements for the scope of maintenance and for the actors tasked to help ensure functional fire alarm systems during the lifetime of the systems, as well as ensure an adequate level of maintenance.
The minimum requirements for operation, inspection and maintenance of fire alarm systems in Bygningsreglementet (The Danish Building Regulations) and associated guidelines are incorporated in these Guidelines.

DBI Guideline 005, Automatic fire alarm systems, Operation and maintenance describe the division of responsibilities between the system owner, user and person responsible for operations.

The guidelines also describe the duties and scope of:

- System owner/user
- Person responsible for operations
- The approved installing company
- The accredited inspection company.

These Guidelines enter into force on 1 January 2022 and replace Guideline 005, 3rd edition, May 2008.
However, for a transitional period of six months from the date of them entering into force, the provisions of Guideline 005, 3rd edition June 2008 may be applied. However, consideration should be given to the minimum requirements for operation and maintenance set out in guidance to Chapter 5 of the Bygningsreglementet (The Danish Building Regulations): Chapter 7, Operation, inspection and maintenance in and around the building.
